We hope you all had a great Halloween! We did the usual: costumes, warm food,
and of course Trick or Treating. So much fun!
On Friday, the day after Halloween, I took all my Halloween down. I love getting holiday decorations out, and I love taking it all down! Anyone else that way? By the time the holiday comes I am so ready to switch it all back out.
Aside from Halloween and taking down Halloween, I’ve got to share
something else I did this weekend.
Do you remember our post about DIY cleaners? It was back in May. I just barely had to make more laundry detergent. That means it lasted about 6 months! It costs about $20 to make a batch, and takes about 15 minutes. For my family of 6, I think 6 months is fantastic!
The recipe:
1 box Borax (76 oz.)
1 box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (4 lb.)
1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (55 oz.)
3 bars Fels Naptha
1 tub Sun oxygen cleaner (6 lb.)
*optional* 1 bottle Purex crystals (for smell)
Use 2-3 Tbs. per load.
(I use the little scoop that comes in the Sun container. It’s 2 Tbs.)
All of these items are in the same aisle at Walmart.
The only work involved here is grating the Fels Naptha bars. Don’t worry, they grate very easily! And smell good!
Then just dump all the ingredients together in a large bin and mix well! EASY!!
I add the Purex crystals to make it smell even better. I also add a very small squirt of liquid Gain to each load. This is also just for smell. I love the way this powder detergent and the Gain smell when mixing all together in the washer.
So one more time, a price comparison: I used to buy Gain for $15-$17 a pop every MONTH to keep up with the amounts of laundry going on here. Now I make my own detergent for about $20 every 6 months and buy the big Costco bottle of Gain about once a year. Yahoo! Saving money and still getting good stuff is the best!
I’m still using the DIY glass cleaner too. I made it about the same time, going on 6+ months! Check it out HERE.
