DIY Art- burlap, cardboard, & yarn!

January 22, 2014 By: Melanie

My downstairs bathroom needed something for the wall above the toilet.  In true Melanie style, I have thought and thought about what I could put there.  We’re talking months….I’m so weird and indecisive like that.  Which is a huge contrast to Steffany.  She rocks at making design decisions!
I finally made my move though!  So proud.
I used printed burlap I found at Hobby Lobby and stapled it to a stretch frame from IKEA.
For the ‘H’ monogram, I used cardboard.  It’s lightweight and FREE!
I used a little hot glue and tightly wrapped my cardboard ‘H’ with good old regular yarn.
Last, I hot glued the yarn monogram to the burlap and hung it!
I love how it turned out, it’s just right for the space.  Making decisions is awesome.  Sometime we’ll have to chat about picking paint colors…oh boy!

The stretch frame we used is just a really basic frame with no glass. I tried looking them up on IKEA.com, but couldn’t find them. A blank canvas from the craft store would work perfectly too. 🙂

What is a stretch frame from IKEA? Is it a special kind of frame or can you use any kind?
    Thanks.

I love this idea! The printed burlap is fantastic! You are being featured at this week’s link party. 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/thelifeofjenniferdawn/posts/707057342668172

Very cute! And I love that I could most likely change out the color of the initial if I decide to change the colors in the room. (That is IF I could easily get the initial off the frame AND be able to cover up the old hot glue with the new one- I’m not very good at those things)
