We are so excited about these Thrift Store Easter baskets with Permanent Grass! Yep, you read that right-permanent grass. We have grown tired of buying new Easter baskets every year and using that messy plastic grass as filler. Anyone else in this boat?
We have come up with a solution to both the basket and the messy grass!
Here’s what you need:
- Real baskets
- Fake realistic grass
- Hot glue gun
Optional supplies:
- Burlap
- Small wood letter (or some kind of monogram)
- String or ribbon
We hit our favorite local Thrift Store and in one trip we found 5 awesome baskets. Because they are actual baskets, they are going to last…….like forever. Guess how much? $2 a piece! That’s cheap, and they are so cute! Traditional, real Easter baskets that we’ll use every year. Basket problem solved. For the grass, we found these little flats of grass at Hobby Lobby for about $3 each (on sale:)
How to make it:
First, we pulled each sprig of grass off the base. We wanted to be able to fill the entire bottom of the basket and by hot glueing the sprigs individually, they will definitely not fall out.
We wanted to personalize our baskets, so we added a monogram burlap bow to the handle. To make the bow, cut a piece of burlap about 12 inches long and 4 inches wide. Put hot glue down one side,
And glue the two ends together.
And tie it with some string to hold it in place.
Now just add a monogram of choice and tie the bow to the basket!

Love this!! I’m with you on the fake/fake grass all over the house! It ends up everywhere and I find myself cleaning it up weeks after Easter is over.
