One my favorite trends lately is maps. They are everywhere-and I love them all: globes, lamps, paper, pillows, furniture…..and chalk! Today we’re talking about chalk, another trend I absolutely love! We’re sharing how to make a huge chalkboard map and you might be surprised how easy it is!
The big chalkboard is just a huge piece of Masonite that I painted with chalkboard paint. It used to hang in my kitchen (see HERE) before we painted the cabinets, and replaced the flooring, and added a barn door (on the blog soon!) Just follow the directions on the chalkboard paint label for the best results. (Masonite is thin, cheap and pretty light-perfect for a huge chalkboard!)
Next, head over to http://www.mrprintables.com/printable-map-of-the-united-states.html and download the Black and White Map of the U.S. Then put it on a flash drive and take it to Staples and have them print you an engineer print of the map. Have you heard of these engineer prints? They are huge and only $3-$4! They are also only black and white and the paper is quite thin, but they are perfect for lots of projects, including this one 😉
Now cut out the map and use a Chalk Marker to trace it onto the Masonite chalkboard.
I just hand drew the banner and U.S.A across the top, easy enough. I also added our home state with a heart.
And I am in love! It turned out better than the vision in my mind-love it when that happens ;). What do you think? Super simple right? For more fun map ideas check out our Maps board on Pinterest HERE. Have a great day!!

Thanks Heidi! Yes engineer prints are so useful! 🙂
Thanks so much Jennifer!
Saw this on Jennifer Dawn’s blog! Great idea to add your home state with a heart :-).
Sometime I need to see if my local staples will do engineer’s prints!
I can’t even begin to describe to you how much I love this! Can you come over and do this in my home? LOL! You ladies are so incredibly talented! I’m featuring it at this week’s link party! http://www.thelifeofjenniferdawn.com/2014/09/a-little-bird-told-me-link-party-106.html
