This year I changed up my front room tree from Peppermint (see HERE) to Rustic and Woodsy. I added some awesome plaid ribbon, some DIY burlap ornaments (see HERE), along with a few other rustic ornament treasures; last I wanted a rustic star to top it off. Wood shims were the cheapest, simplest way I could think of to get just what I wanted. I also used 5 of these elementary school style brads and some stain.
Start by drilling a hole in each end of the shims. We stacked 2 at a time and drilled through them both, then used one as a guide to drill the other 3.
Now paint or stain the shims however you like!
Then arrange them into a star, just like the stars we’ve been doodling on paper since the 2nd grade. Place a gold brad into the holes at each corner.
Add a little dab of hot glue to secure it.
Decorate the place up! We used a piece of wire to attach it to the top of the tree. I just might make a couple more to place around the house-it turned out so cute.
This tree is just what I imagined - love it when that happens 🙂
