Happy December everyone! Yes, it’s already December and we’re posting an advent calendar….it’s not too late to start a good countdown! We shared this project over at Fun, Cheap, or Free a couple weeks ago, but wanted to share it here as well. It is seriously the easiest Christmas craft ever - no special craft skills required and uses very few materials. All you really need is some cute scrapbook paper to make it look gorgeous. Let’s get to it!
Here’s what you need:
- Paper Mache Advent Box (We found ours at Hobby Lobby and used a coupon to get it for under $10, but we also found this one on Amazon for about $12.)
- Christmas Paper
- Glue or Mod Podge
- Number Stamps and ink (We think THESE are super cute, or THESE)
- Stickers and/or any other desired embellishments
- Ribbon
Here’s how to do it:
Cut squares of paper to fit each little box. These are 2 inches by 2 inches. Then use one of the boxes as a tracing guide to cut out the little half circle. You will want to cut 2 of each pattern - one for the front of the box and one for the back.
We fell in love with this vintage Christmas paper!
Next, brush on glue or Mod Podge and attach the paper to the box.
Now it’s time to add the numbers and embellishments!
Last step is to hot glue the ribbon and bow. If your ribbon is very thick, be sure to run it down the sides only, not the bottom (so it will stand flat.)
There are all kinds of Christmas Countdown ideas that have a small gift or activity to do each day. That kind of countdown however, is not for us! Rather than the added stress of having an activity to tackle every night, we are opting for a small treat. One Hershey’s kiss to be exact.
Our numbers START with 25 and END with 1. With little kids it’s so fun for them to be able to look at the countdown and know that whatever number we’re on is how many days there are until Christmas! It could go either way though :).
We are only on day 3 and we are loving our little chocolate treat each night!
So easy right?! We finished this baby in no time and are so thrilled with how simple it really was!
