Gold, black, and white is a perfect combo for basically every holiday! Do you agree? Halloween (see HERE), Christmas (see HERE), New Year’s Eve (see HERE), even Easter (see HERE.) I’m seeing it for St. Patrick’s day too! I love it! Today, we’re going for that color scheme for Valentine’s Day with a simple geometric paper heart DIY. Here’s all you need:
Scrapbook paper
A paper cutter.
Double sided tape.
As you can see, we used 2 pieces of scrapbook paper. You could use as many different papers as you want, just depends on the colors, patterns and overall look you’re going for!
For a 2 color heart like ours, you only need 10 triangles of each color; which means you’ll cut 5 squares.
Our heart fits just right on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. To make a heart the same size, cut the paper into 2 inch strips. (You’ll only need one strip of each color if your paper is 12 x 12.)
Next, cut the strips into 2 inch squares. And then cut the squares diagonally into triangles.
Now start laying the triangles as shown in the pictures below. Thank goodness for pictures with this kind of tutorial! I have no idea how I would try to explain where to put these triangles to make a heart without pictures. Ha Ha!
Once you’re happy with the placement of your colors and/or patterns, use some double sided tape to attach the triangles to a sheet of card stock. Then put it in a frame, or on a fun clipboard!
So no matter what size you choose to do your heart, you’ll need 20 triangles of paper (10 squares, any size.) How fun would it be to make a huge one and tape it right on the wall?! I might give it a go!
(This cute clipboard and easel are from Hobby Lobby.)
Such an easy little craft perfect for Valentine’s Day!
