Paper straws….they are basically irresistible, but they feel kind of like a waste to actually use as a straw. Is that just me? Haha! I’m sure you’ve seen all the colors and patterns of paper straws out there - they are so dang cute! I buy them all the time because like I said, they are basically irresistible; but I don’t buy them for drinking out of. In my opinion, they are put to much better use as a craft project than as a drinking tool.;) So, today we’re sharing one idea for a paper straw craft: a paper straw garland! We made this one for Valentine’s Day, but think of the possibilities with all those cute paper straws out there! I picked these one’s up at Target in the dollar section.
Here’s all you need to make one too:
- Paper straws
- Embroidery floss
- Large needle
Start by cutting the paper straws in to 2 inch lengths. (These red polka dot straws were 9 inches long. I just threw away the extra inch on the end. The black ones were 8 inches long.)
Once the straws are all cut, start threading them onto some embroidery floss using a large needle.
Just push the needle through the straw pieces as close to the center as possible. No need for perfection. Also, your fingers may get a little sore by the end. Fair warning.
Tie a knot on both ends of the floss so the straw pieces won’t slip off the ends. Then the pieces can easily slide on the embroidery floss to get the desired spacing.
Um, so cute.
For the “I really love you” banner. Simply cut some black card stock into rectangles and use some alphabet stickers. I found these particular ones in the Target dollar section a while back. Seriously……. Target is like the best.
That’s it! Paper straw garlands for every holiday coming right up! There’s always room for a good banner.
