Have you ever heard that if you talk to your plants they’ll grow better? Well today we have some funny painted planter pots to take it one step further! We put carefully thought out words/plant motivation directly on the pot. Does that count as talking? Maybe it’s just desperate begging-haha! If nothing else, these funny pots are cute and unique and perfect for the average plant killing people that many of us are. 😉 These are a fun way to display a small herb garden, or any other plant you choose……real or fake….(we won’t judge.)
Here’s what you need to make your own:
- terra cotta pots (ours are 4 inch)
- vinyl phrases
- white paint
- foam paintbrush
Step one: Paint the pots. We chose to leave the rims of our pots unpainted; of course, you can paint them anyway you’d like. We recommend two coats.
Let the paint dry. (It will dry really fast.)
Step two: apply the vinyl phrases. We cut the vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo. There are a couple options available if you don’t have a vinyl cutter. 1). You can purchase a kit from us (HERE) which includes everything you need except the unfinished terra cotta pots, or 2). You can use a sharpie and your best handwriting to write on the pots.
If you would like to copy ours exactly, I used the font called A Typewriter For Me. Cut the vinyl, weed, and place transfer tape over the weeded words for the easiest application.
First step to using the vinyl at this point is to peel the back away. The words will be attached to the transfer tape.
Then simply place the words where you want them on the pot. Just like a sticker! Press down really well. Next, carefully peel away the transfer tape, leaving the vinyl words on the pot.
Do the same with the other two pots and they’re ready for some planting!
We added some cute little chalkboard signs to our pots for easy labeling.
Now hopefully with some sunshine, water, and a little begging, our herb garden will grow. Like I mentioned earlier though, these would be cute with fake plants in them too; which is what we may be resorting to if this whole live plant thing doesn’t work out-haha!
Linking up to some of these parties:
Thank you Roseann! They’re absolutely appropriate for all our plant growing efforts too! 😉
These are great! And totally appropriate for the flowers I’m attempting to grow right now!
