Banners are a great way to add a festive touch to our homes for any season. They are small to store, easy to make, and adorable to hang in so many places. Really, who doesn’t love a cute banner?! (Don’t answer that unless you do-haha ;). Today we’ve got a Valentine Hearts Banner that is super simple to make. With just a few supplies, some that you probably already have on hand, you can whip this thing up in no time. We’ll walk you through step by step!
Here’s what you need:
- 1/4 yard (or less depending on how many pennants you want) canvas
- Red fabric (or whatever color and pattern you want)
- Heat’n’Bond
- Iron
- Elmers glue
- Bakers twine
- Fabric scissors
- Thin cardboard or poster board (a cereal box works great)
- Pencil
Step 1-Heat’n’Bond:
Apply Heat’n’Bond to all the fabric as well as the canvas. This will stabilize the fabric and keep the canvas from fraying too much. Follow the directions on the Heat’n’Bond (it’s super easy, you really just iron it on).
Step 2-Cut:
Cut the canvas into 4 1/2 by 6 inch rectangles. Make as many as you want, ours has 8.
Make a template for the hearts and the pennants onto thin cardboard. Then trace the templates onto the fabric and cut out.
Step 3- Glue:
Next you will simply glue the hearts to the pennant pieces. Elmers glue works great!
Step 4- String:
Start by folding the top and snipping small holes to string the bakers twine through.
To make it easier to thread through the pennants put tape on one end of the bakers twine. Then string it through each pennant piece.
That’s all there is to it! Your cute Valentine hearts banner is ready to hang!
