Happy Fall everyone - it’s officially pumpkin season! We are huge fans of all things pumpkin and all things Fall so this Pumpkin Patch sign has quickly become one of our favorite crafts. We’re so happy you love it too! This is a fun sign to make, you may even learn a new technique. We’re excited to walk you through the whole thing.
Let’s get started!
What’s in your kit:
- Gel stain
- Orange paint
- White paint
- Foam brushes
- Slat sign
- Pumpkin trio + bead board overlay
- Wood glue
- Vinyl
You will also need:
- Vinyl squeegee (or credit card)
Step 1: Stain and paint
Start by staining the slat sign, then set aside to dry.
Paint the pumpkin trio and bead board overlay orange. Just paint the sides and fronts. Your kit may have come with an additional overlay that is not bead board, you can choose between the two for your sign.
Step 2: Vinyl
For this project we are using the reverse vinyl technique. That means we’ll be painting over the vinyl and then peeling the vinyl off to reveal the stain under the letters.
Once the stain is dry, place the vinyl. Use a vinyl squeegee (or credit card) to press the letters onto the wood really well.
Step 3: White paint
Now paint the sign white. Start by dabbing over the letters lightly, be sure your brush isn’t too heavy with paint. Then smooth over the dabbing right away. The trick to clean lines is to go light on the paint.
Let the first coat dry and paint a second coat if desired. For the second coat, dabbing around the letters is not necessary. The first coat of paint will have created a seal. Still be careful not to have too much paint on the brush as you paint over the letters.
Step 4: Peel the vinyl
This is the BEST part! Once the white paint is dry, start peeling away the vinyl. It’s so satisfying revealing those beautiful, clean lines!
Step 5: Glue
Last step is to glue the bead board overlay onto the pumpkin trio, then glue the pumpkin trio onto the sign.
Let the glue dry completely before standing your sign up.
This baby is ready for display! So cute!
