Hi friends! We are so excited you got your hands on this Sweet Summertime Watermelon sign kit. We are in love with this cute little sign! Watermelon is such a perfect mascot for summertime! This is a pretty quick craft, and it’s a really fun one!
As always, everything you need is included in your kit:
Crafting is so easy with everything in a bag and ready to go right?! Making it easy and fun is our #1 goal, so we sure hope you find this craft (and all our crafts) easy and fun.
Let’s get to it!
To start, paint the back (if you want), the sides, and the front of the slat sign down about 4 and 3/4 slats as shown in the picture below.
Next, paint the white. Paint in the last slat, a little below, and up to meet the red. Blend the white into the red by switching back and forth between the red brush and the white brush. Do this as much or as little as you want until it’s blended to your liking! Now paint the remaining wood green. Do the same with the green and white, blending until you like how it looks.
Remember, nature isn’t perfect! Don’t examine your blending too closely. We like to hold our projects up about 5 feet away and look at it from a distance when we’re getting too critical. Imperfections are not even noticeable when you’re not looking at it 12 inches away. 😉
Here’s a side view, we painted the white and green down the sides as well.
Next is the vinyl. Peel away the clear sticker (the words will be on the clear side). Place it on the sign. Watch the ‘S’ and the ‘E’ in “SUMMERTIME” making sure they are the same distance from the top. That way you’ll get it on good and straight. Use a vinyl presser tool or a credit card to press the vinyl onto the wood, then peel away the clear sheet. You can leave the vinyl just like it is, or you can do what we did and cut the letters where they cover the slats.
Use a sharp pair of scissors and cut at the very top of the slat.
Then, fold the remaining letter down into the slat.
Last, the finishing touch- watermelon seeds! Your kit has 8 vinyl seeds, we used 7- just FYI. 🙂
All done! We LOVE how this turned out!
Thanks for crafting with us!
