Hi friends! We hope you are as excited as we are about these Thanksgiving Pilgrims and Indians from the Wood Connection. We love how they turned out and are so happy to have them up to celebrate Thanksgiving! Let’s be honest, these are a little more complicated than a lot of our other Wood Connection crafts, but it IS 4 individual pieces….and they are worth it! We’ll walk you through it step by step. Here we go!
What’s in your kit:
- Wood figures
- Paper
- Paint: black, white, red,
- Wood stain
- Ribbon
- String for Indian girl hair
- Wood glue
- Brushes
Step 1-Trace:
Start by tracing the dress and mens collar overlay pieces onto the paper.
Trace on the back side of the paper to avoid any pencil lines.
Step 2- Stain:
Stain the sides, back, and faces of all 4 figures. The front bodies will be painted rather than stained.
Step 3- Paint:
Next, paint the sides of the dress and mens collar overlays white. Also paint the sides and front of the Pilgrim woman’s collar and bonnet overlay.
Once the stain is dry on the figures, it’s time to paint. Here’s the breakdown:
Black-both pilgrim bodies, top of pilgrim mans head as well as the hat brim, both Indian figures hair (although I forgot to paint the Indian mans hair in the photo below-whoops!:)
Red- Indian man’s body, both feathers.
White- top of Pilgrim woman’s head, Indian woman’s body.
Step 4- Glue:
Use wood glue to glue the paper onto the dress and collar overlays. Paint the glue onto the overlay, making sure to get all the edges, then place the paper and smooth onto the surface.
Now use the wood glue to attach all the overlay pieces to the bodies. (Notice the Indian man’s hair is painted in this picture. 🙂
Last, use hot glue to attach the feathers and the headbands on the Indians. Also tie the string around the Indian woman’s pig tails.
All done! We hope you enjoy having these Thanksgiving Pilgrims and Indians out for the Thanksgiving holiday!
